We are a passionate and committed group of providers raising the standard of care in Gallup and McKinley County.

Gallup and McKinley County represent the New Mexico county with the largest primary care provider deficit according to The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. We’re here to help!

The Steering Committee is comprised of three local physicians and a long-time healthcare programs development leader. Dr. Valory Wangler will serve as founding Executive Director for Gallup Community Health, bringing a decade of healthcare leadership experience to the organization. Dr. Wangler has a strong following of patients and a reputation that will attract talented and dedicated staff, both clinical and administrative.


Profile: Dr. Valory Wangler

Val Wangler, MD, is a Family Physician and the Executive Director of Gallup Community Health. Living and working in McKinley County (Zuni and Gallup) since 2010, Dr. Wangler considers Gallup home and is committed to improving the health of our community. She provides primary care to patients of all ages and was recently named Physician of the Year by the New Mexico Society for Hospital Medicine 2021. She previously served as Chief Medical Officer at RMCHCS during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and founded the Family Medicine residency program there. Dr. Wangler currently serves as Regional Associate Dean for the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Profile: Dr. Christopher Hoover

Chris Hoover, MD, is a Board-Certified Urologist. He has lived in Gallup, NM since 2017, where he practices Urology and raises his two girls. He completed his residency training at Boston University Medical Center and went on to complete a fellowship in Voiding Dysfunction and Laser Prostate Surgery. He is the only Urologist in the region performing HoLEP (holmium laser enucleation of the prostate) surgery. He is an expert in surgical and medical management common Urologic conditions for both men and women, including:

-BPH (enlarged prostate)
-prostate cancer (including PSA screening, prostate biopsy)
-urinary incontinence
-sexual health (erectile dysfunction/ED, vasectomy)
-kidney stones

Profile: Dr. Kristine Cruz

Kristine Cruz, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician who has served the Native American population of Northwest New Mexico for almost a decade. Dr. Cruz received her Doctor of Medicine degree at Rush University Medical College in Chicago, Illinois and completed her Family Medicine residency training at the University of Vermont, Burlington Vermont. Dr. Cruz enjoys practicing full spectrum Family Medicine with a particular passion for child and adolescent health. Dr. Cruz enjoys spending time with her partner and their two children and exploring the outdoors.
